Hello everyone!

After a very long pause I was finally able to plan an evening for our wonderful documentary group! :) I was very set on scheduling an event to see Taxy to the Dark side, which ended up winning the Oscar this year, but distribution for this film was ridiculously small. I really have missed the group screenings and our intense discussions!

Now I am so happy to invite you to a screening of my favorite doc, and a true classic film - HOOP DREAMS! My dear friend Carol has invited us to her beautiful condo on 1000 Kingsbury road, that's by Oak street and the river, and since there are limited spaces available, only about 15 people can come for this event. Email me for the apartment number. Please bring a pillow if you can, though, this film is long and will be best if we all are sitting comfortably. :)

What can I say about Hoop Dreams other than it was life altering and simply amazing? A true documentary masterpiece, it changed my perception about the world in the span of 3 short hours. There is a great chance that you have seen it already, but to see it again with the group would be unboubtedly very valuable. I am really looking forward to our discussion! Please try to come on time.

We suggest a $5 donation for this event.

Please join us next week!

Here's what the critics are saying too.

A prodigious achievement that conveys the fabric of modern American life, aspirations and incidentally, sports, in close-up and at length, Hoop Dreams is a documentary slam dunk.

Todd McCarthy
Variety
Top Critic
This is the best type of documentary, giving an intensely personal story you can?t help but become involved in, and also raises fundamental issues about America in the 90s.

Kim Newman
Empire Magazine
Boasting an epic scale, and a running time to match, this seminal docu, an absorbing anatomy of the American Dream in Chicago's inner-city, has more passion, compassion and suspense than most Hollywood fictional stories.

I am so excited to see this film with all of you. Perhaps since the movie is long and we don't want to miss anything, we'll choose a half way point to pause, stretch, refresh beverages, and get tuned back in. Whatever the group thinks works for me.

Who attended?

    •  Thank you everyone for coming! I really enjoyed watching and discussing my fovorite doc with you. :) Thank you, Carol, for being such a gracious hostess!
    •  All the makings for a great doc meetup: great doc, great people, good discussion and all in a very comfortable setting.
    •  Really interesting film and a nice group of people.
    •  Overall I thought it was a great discussion. I think the only thing that would have made it better was a bigger crowd like "The Corporation" Meetup...
    •  Very nice group of people, who added well-rounded perspectives on the film and subject matter in general. Carol - thanks for the popcorn and snacks. Rossi, nice job and I hope to see you all again soon!
