The Salon was founded in 2006. It's a monthly meeting of filmmakers, film fans, and students of documentary film of all varieties. Someone brings a work of their own, or a work-in-progress, or a favorite film, or a collection of clips; others bring a little food and drink. We meet in a lovely space provided by Pittsburgh Filmmakers, in North Oakland. No dues or admission fees; always free and casual.

We like to go see "indie" movies ... particularly award-winning foreign films. Many of our meetups are to Pittsburgh Filmmakers showings, including some film festivals. Come join us for a good film and good conversation!

Declare your independence from the multiplexes and see an independent, foreign classic, documentary or any thought provoking movie. We meet at landmarks like the Cedar Lee, Cinematheque, Art Museum, or a university and work in dinner at a locally owned restaurant either before or afterward. Perhaps the best part is walking to a local pub and engaging others on the film's true meaning. Cost to attend: $1.50 per movie or $5 for the year. Your first movie with the group is free.
